Founded in 1984, Chroma ATE, Inc., has become a world leading supplier of Test, Measurement, Inspection and Automation Manufacturing Solutions is expanding their North America client base therefore is searching for a Technical Sales Engineer. The ideal candidate will have excellent business acumen, experience working with global supply chain managers and in electronic manufacturing programs. You will be working with the most prevalent companies in the world and support their growth development in Mobile Device Sensing, Optical Communications for AI, Autonomous Vehicles and more.
Primary Responsibilities
• Drive new business development by managing and guiding technical and commercial activities to secure program wins
• Expand and deepen account penetration by engaging all key decision-makers across engineering, program management, and procurement teams
• Conduct regular customer visits to build long-term relationships through technical expertise, problem-solving, and solution-based selling
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, product management, operations) to achieve program objectives and customer success
• Lead and facilitate detailed engineering-level discussions related to photonics, optics, and system integration
• Plan, coordinate, and document customer meetings, including action items, risks, challenges, and progress tracking
• Identify, prioritize, and manage project tasks, timelines, and technical/commercial risks
• Partner with Product Specialists to develop customized photonics and optical solutions (may require occasional evening hours to support global customers)
• Review Statements of Work (SOW) with legal, engineering, and internal stakeholders; negotiate scope, deliverables, and commercial terms with customer procurement teams
• Align customer expectations with internal teams from initial engagement through delivery and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
• Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and technical events within the photonics and optics industry

Qualification / Education / Experiences / Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (optics/photonics focus strongly preferred)
• 3+ years of outside sales experience, ideally in capital equipment, photonics, optics, or related high-tech industries
• Strong foundation or hands-on experience in optics, photonics, or optical systems (e.g., lasers, imaging systems, optical testing, PICs)
• Self-motivated, results-driven professional with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
• Ability to combine technical expertise with business acumen and strategic thinking
• Proven ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels, including engineering, program management, and procurement
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal (Mandarin is a plus but not required)
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects involving internal and external teams
• Strong listening skills with the ability to uncover customer needs and translate them into effective technical solutions
• Highly organized with excellent time management and prioritization skills
• Proficiency with CRM tools, reporting, and project tracking systems
• Willingness to travel up to 40%
Preferred (Nice to Have)
• Experience with Photonics Integrated Circuits (PIC), Electronic-Photonic Integrated Circuits (EPIC), or Co-Packaged Optics (CPO)
• Background in optical test and measurement systems or semiconductor/photonics manufacturing environments
• Exposure to global customer engagement and support across multiple time zones
