Job Summary

The Advanced Research Team (ART) develops breakthrough technologies, explores new concepts, and validates ideas through Proof of Concept (PoC). ART determines what is technically possible; it does not develop production-ready products.

We are seeking a hands-on Project Development Engineer to lead the development and validation of advanced technology for thermal systems. This role bridges R&D & design engineering. You will develop and refine proof of concepts, program and troubleshooting controls for proof-of-concept validation, create project documentation, drive design-for-performance improvements, and ensure robust test and quality processes used to validate proof of concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with design and R&D engineering teams to develop, validate, and optimize innovative thermal solutions.
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot safety limit devices, controllers, PLCs, and HMIs to ensure reliable system performance.
  • Author detailed work instructions and procedures for PoC handoff to PDT
  • Configure and operate data acquisition systems to log temperature, flow, voltage, and other critical parameters, maintain calibration logs and full traceabilty documentation.
  • Generate comprehensive test and validation reports summarizing procedures, results, root-cause analysis, and design recommendations to support cross-functional decision-making.
  • Design and implement PoC modifications and established industry quality control standards.
  • Provide oversight verifying that the PoC meets or exceeds all design specifications.
  • Maintain and improve project operations, including coordination of workflow, troubleshooting, and continuous performance improvement initiatives.
  • Edit and maintain drawings in SolidWorks

Qualification and Skills

Required

  • Progressive experience in design engineering, project development, and related technical roles involving thermal systems.
  • Strong proficiency in PLC programming/debugging and HMI development/editing.
  • Demonstrated experience with data acquisition systems, thermal testing, safety limit devices/controllers and generation of formal test reports.
  • Experience authoring work instructions, PoC build procedures, and project documentation with a solid understanding of best practice design principles.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for drawing edits and design support.
  • Proven ability to lead custom thermal projects, and project development
  • Strong root-cause analysis skills and experience with various design tools.
  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively amid ambiguity and unproven concepts.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to communicate technical recommendations clearly in reports and team settings.

Preferred

  • Experience in thermal test project development environments.
  • Experience managing project operations.
  • Ladder logic or other programming experience for automation or data handling tasks.
