Job Summary

The Advanced Research Team (ART) develops breakthrough technologies, explores new concepts, and validates ideas through Proof of Concept (PoC). ART determines what is technically possible; it does not develop production-ready products.

The Sr. Research Engineer advances ART's mission by researching emerging technologies, designing Proof of Concept (PoC) systems, and partnering with Product Validation Engineering (PVE) to ready new concepts for handoff to the Product Development Team (PDT).

Responsibilities

  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies, architectures, and thermal, refrigeration, electrical, and control-method concepts to push the limits of current platforms.
  • Design, oversee build/test PoC systems to validate performance, functionality, feasibility, and risk.
  • Confirm project design specifications, thermal, and safety targets are met before handoff.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple sites.
  • Prepare PoC documentation for handoff to PVE and PDT.

Qualification and Skills

Required

  • Experience in R&D, project development, and applied research — ideally within semiconductor test or precision electromechanical systems.
  • Hands-on experience designing, and oversee building, brazing, wiring, and testing prototype or PoC systems.
  • SolidWorks CSWA certification or completion of a Sheet Metal training course required.
  • Extensive experience with electrical, mechanical, and automation systems, including working knowledge of thermal and refrigeration design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively amid ambiguity and unproven concepts.
  • Effective cross-functional collaborator, able to partner with validation and product development teams.

Preferred

  • Experience with rapid prototyping, design of experiments, and root-cause analysis.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools or embedded programming relevant to your specialty.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor test handler, chamber, or thermal control system design.
  • Ability to Commute: Soulsbyville, CA 95372 (Preferred)
